Alchemy Resident Scholar
Program Description
Alchemy Resident Scholars is a collaboration with the neighboring Compass Homeschool Program to ensure that resident dancers are able to continue their studies and work towards their high school diploma while receiving world-class dance instruction. Alchemy Resident Scholars work with an academic advisor from Compass to structure and schedule a personalized high school plan.
For Resident Scholars who will complete high school while in residence at Alchemy, advisors help craft a program of study that meets or exceeds the high school requirements of the State of Virginia. Those students receive an individualized transcript and high school diploma endorsed by Alchemy Ballet and administered under section 22.1 254.1 of the Virginia Code.
For Resident Scholars who are at Alchemy during a school year but will return to their homes to complete their education, academic advisors work with their base schools to ensure that needed courses are completed, academic requirements are met, and credits will be transferred.
Alchemy Resident Scholars can enroll in dozens of in-person, small-group classes at Compass in core, elective, and enrichment topics. Compass is located in a 16,000 SF facility on a campus setting two blocks from the Alchemy studios. Compass instructors are professionals in their fields who also offer private one-on-one or semi-private instruction to Alchemy Resident Scholars to ensure they stay on track in their academics. Compass academic advisors assist Resident Scholars in selecting online courses, enrolling in community college classes, or crafting independent study programs to fulfill their academic goals while accommodating their dance schedules.
